Southern California experienced three natural disasters in just two days

Three natural disasters struck Southern California in just two days. Miraculously, no casualties were reported in any of the disasters, although one person is still missing after the flash floods.

Landslides on Sunday trapped dozens of cars near Los Angeles. The next day, a 2.6-magnitude earthquake struck Canoga Park, also in southern California, and that afternoon, San Bernardino police rescued a mother and her children from flash floods. A National Weather Service meteorologist told Newsweek that the quake was unrelated to the quake, but mudslides and flash floods were caused by Hurricane Kay when the hurricane pulled off shore.

On Sunday night, drivers had to be rescued from their cars after cars got stuck in mud and debris on Pine Canyon Road near Lake Hughes, 65 miles north of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Fire Department has deployed two Firehawk helicopters to aid in rescue operations, according to a tweet from the agency. Helicopters used night vision technology to rescue eight adults and six children across five sites affected by mudslides.

It is estimated that the mudslides trapped 24 vehicles and 53 people, but no injuries were reported.

An earthquake hit Canoga Park, California, on Monday. Rated on a 2.6-degree scale, it was about two and a half miles deep. The US Geological Survey (USGS) said earthquakes are usually not felt if they are less than 2 on the Richter scale. An earthquake is considered “small” when its magnitude is between 3 and 3.9. The US Geological Survey said that earthquakes usually do not cause damage until they reach a magnitude of 4 or 5. Earthquakes can cause mudslides and flash floods, but Monday’s quake had nothing to do with other disasters.

A woman called the police over an unrelated issue on Monday afternoon, and after hanging up and returning to her car, a sudden flood caused a sudden river to roar in her direction. It took three officers to help a mother who fell while trying to cross the flood. A video, posted to Twitter by the SoCal News Outlet, shows officers helping two children and other people stranded in a flash flood. There were no reports of injuries.

Flash floods also affected other parts of San Bernardino County. The San Bernardino County Fire posted on Facebook that the flooding was very severe, and there were multiple reports of missing people.

One person is still missing, according to Fox Weather. Search teams are still combing the area for the missing person.
