A family in the Mexican earthquake drama

A boy in Mexico fell with his parents to treat cancer in an earthquake.

Charlie Elsley, 13, from Buckingham Drive, Immer Green, is fighting the disease for the third time since he was first diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2015. He now has tumors in his spine.

He is currently undergoing his second week of a new form of immunotherapy in Mexico City in the hope of saving his life.

On Tuesday last week, the family was hit by an earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale. It struck southern Mexico at around 9:30 am local time.

“The earthquake was very scary,” said Ms. Elsley. We were in our room on the sixth floor when we heard an alarm go off. We thought it was a fire alarm. We looked at our door and a few others were looking, but it didn’t look anxious, so we went back inside. Then the floor started moving like side by side and shouted Charlie “My bed is moving” and all the hanging lights were swinging.

I looked at my husband Mark, who had no idea what was going on, and said, “It’s an earthquake.”

“We knew then that this was the siren – it gives you a minute to get out. We had to vacate the building on the concrete stairs, but there were 12 groups of five stairs and Charlie didn’t have shoes on it because you just had to go out.

“There were police helicopters and everyone was on the street and at that time there was no cancer or corona, I think we will die.” Mrs. Elsley said that her son’s treatment, which he underwent three times a week, was going well and was expected to end at the end of next week.

She said: “This has been the hardest six years of my life, but sitting on this chair with Charlie IV treatment, I consider myself so blessed with blood to meet the finest people. I cannot thank you enough and this makes my heart swell with love.

“Mark and I’m fine. It’s hard because it’s closed everywhere, because this is a hot place for Corona, so we can’t go out anywhere on holidays.”

The family was treated with a stay at Rancho Las Cascadas over the weekend, which is about 90 minutes from the hotel.

There, enjoy horse riding, swimming, sunbathing and relax in a hot tub. Charlie also played billiards. Mrs. Ilsley said: “It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. We had an amazing time.

“The owner invited us to come back for a free weekend next week, which is amazing as Charlie was spending the best time.

Charlie, who is currently without symptoms, is undergoing CAR-T treatment under the direction of Dr. Jason Williams, director of interventional oncology and immunotherapy at the Williams Institute for Cancer, who also has affiliates in America and China.

The cost of treatment is £ 25,000, which was raised by fans and fans.

The family wants to raise an additional £ 2,000 for a drug called Vismodegib, which is a type of targeted cancer drug called a Cancer Growth Blocker.

Earlier this year, Ilsleys was told that the chemotherapy and immunotherapy that Charlie’s underwent had failed. Since then they have been searching for a new treatment. They are told that Charlie is not eligible for hospital trials in both Memphis and Seattle and not suitable for experiments in Philadelphia.

Charlie, who teaches at Emer Green Highdown School, obtained a clear permit for the second time in August after undergoing specialized radiotherapy in Turkey that his family had to raise money to pay.

But in November, they were told that the disease had returned after a lumbar puncture showed cancerous cells in its spinal fluid.

Examination in March showed disease of the spine and elsewhere. Charlie was receiving etoposide medication through a tank inserted under his scalp in January and Topotic but these treatments stopped because they were not working. After being diagnosed in 2015, Charlie underwent a 10-hour surgery and had 31 sessions of radiotherapy followed by chemotherapy before he was given entirely in March 2016.

Then in the spring of 2018 two tumors were discovered in the spine.

Meanwhile, Jessecco Prosecco & Pancakes, managed by Jessica Hayes of a converted horse fund, raised funds for the Charlie Fund.

You collect £ 250 from a pop-up event at Binfield Heath on Friday and you will be next to the village store in Shiplake today (Friday) from noon to 8 pm and at Henley Rugby Club, off Marlow Road, tomorrow (Saturday) at the same time.

Ms. Hayes of Henley said she would donate 50 percent of the acquisitions and also had a fund for people to make donations.
