Early warning of rain and lightning issued in Surabaya today: BMKG

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – An early warning of hydrometeorological disasters has been issued for East Java, South Sumatra and West Java today October 3, 2022, the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced. Hydrometeorological disasters include floods, flash floods and landslides due to heavy rains in the regions.

A number of regions including Bandung, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Jambi, Pangkal Penang, Pekanbaru, Banjarmasin and Kupang are also expected to see rainy weather accompanied by lightning today.

Meanwhile, light rain is expected on Palembang in South Sumatra, Jakarta, Denpasar and Semarang. Moderate rain is expected in other areas such as Serang, Tanjung Pinang, Bandar Lampung, Mamoju and Medan.

Today’s weather forecast is affected by the presence of a cyclone circulation that was detected in the Indian Ocean west of Sumatra and in northwest Kalimantan, which increases the possibility of rain cloud growth around the region.

BMKG also estimated that the air temperature in the country could range between 19 and 33 degrees Celsius with the lowest in Bandung and the highest in Banda Aceh, Gorontalo, Surabaya, Banjarmasin and Makassar.
