Karnataka: The quake was felt in the Shiralakoba town of Karnataka in Shivamuga district in the early hours of Thursday, causing panic among the residents.

Local residents said the quake was felt in a three-kilometre radius at about 3.55 a.m.

The residents of the area panicked after the tremors and the authorities of the area rushed to the site to assess the situation.

Locals said they suddenly felt a tremor while sleeping.

Ships shook in the house and people rushed out of their homes.

They felt the tremors for three to four seconds. Tehsildar Kaviraj stated that tremors were reported to have been felt twice in Shiralakoppa town. But there is no official confirmation in this regard.

The district commissioner and the state meteorological department have been notified about the quake.

Once the report is released in this regard, there will be more clarity.

Shivamoja District Commissioner, Sylvamani R said there is no need to panic as no report of the earthquake has been confirmed.

He explained that information is being sought in this regard, and the news circulated on social networking sites is incorrect.
