Oregon officials say it’s time to review earthquake insurance

Salem, Oregon. The Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services reminds people to add or review their earthquake insurance.

Just last week, the USGS reported a 4.4-magnitude earthquake southeast of Salem.

The state said this serves as a reminder to check your policies.

The state added that earthquake insurance is not a standard in many policies.

So they say it’s important to get insurance now before it’s too late.

“You never know when we’re going to have a major earthquake,” said company spokesman Jason Horton. “And once a bigger earthquake hits there is a ban where you can’t get insurance and then it’s too late. So this little earthquake was a nice reminder for all of us.”

The last major earthquake to hit the area was in 1993, when it struck Klamath Falls with magnitudes of 6.0 and 5.9.
