Gujarat earthquake: Magnitude 3.5 earthquake strikes Gujarat

The Gujarat city of Surat on Thursday reported a 3.5-magnitude earthquake, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported.

The movement of subsurface tectonic plates was felt around 10.26 a.m. in 61 kilometers southeast of Surat, ANI reported, citing the NCS.

Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also in his hometown and is scheduled to launch Mission LiFE in Kivadia today.

LiFE will be launched after the Prime Minister’s bilateral meeting with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres in Kivadia.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said it is expected to be a global mass movement led by India that Prime Minister Modi envisions that will advance individual and collective action to protect and conserve the environment.

Later in the day, PM Modi will also participate in the 10th Heads of Mission Conference, which is being organized by the Ministry of External Affairs from 20-22 October 2022 in Kivadia. The conference will bring together 118 Indian Heads of Mission (Ambassadors and High Commissioners) from all over the world.

Earlier, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake occurred near Andaman and Nicobar islands on October 14, while a 4.8-magnitude earthquake shook Chhattisgarh Ambikapur on the same day.
