Rehearsals for the Great California Earthquake were happening all over the valley

At 10:20 this morning, some people across California were conducting drills in the event of a major earthquake. In the Coachella Valley, Desert College, also known as COD, has partnered with the Coachella Valley Disaster Preparedness Network, also known as CVDPN. While conducting the exercise, CVDPN had a table with all the information you need to know.

The three basic steps are dropping – covering – and catching.

At COD, construction captains helped students and faculty get out of the building safely. “It is the responsibility of construction captains to go door-to-door in the building or inside the building to ensure everyone gets out,” says Marvella Ordaz, COD International Programs Associate.

All Palm Springs Unified School District locations and departments participated in this morning’s training. At Cathedral City High School, students and staff participated in a one-hour training that included duck teams, cover and evacuation teams, survey teams, and members of the HEAL Academy providing triage services to “infected” students. Also participating in the exercises were the Cathedral City Fire Department and Mercy Air.
