Earthquake Season: Today’s Big Tremor and State Grant of Seismic Retrofits • The Mendocino Voice | Mendocino County, Cate Mendocino Voice
Mendocino Corporation, 10/20/22 – It is not unusual for us to write articles about small earthquakes occurring across the North Coast, as Mendocino County and the surrounding area is home to a number of fault lines, along with many other Californians.
On Thursday, October 20, a “Great Shakeout” will take place across the state, and at 10:20 a.m. residents will receive an alert to test their emergency notification system via the MyShake app. You can read more about the MyShake app in California here – it’s designed to give residents advance warning and additional information in the event of an earthquake. If you have it installed, you will receive a test notification this morning to help you prepare for the next big event. More information about earthquake preparedness is included below.
California also offers seismic retrofit grants to residents of select ZIP codes, and applications are open until November 29, 2022 to solicit funds to upgrade your primary residence to improve seismic stability. Residents of zip codes including 95437 (Fort Bragg), 95460 (Mendocino), 95470 (Redwood Valley), 95482 (Ukiah) and 95490 (Willits) are eligible, but you can check the details at this link. Residents who meet the income qualifications are entitled to additional grants.

October 20, 2022 is the Great California Shake Out, an event where residents across the state take a few minutes to practice earthquake safety. At around 10:20, MyShake app users will receive a test notification encouraging users to practice “Drop, Cover and Hold On” in the event of an earthquake. To get the MyShake app, please visit: https://myshake.berkeley.edu/
The test exercise will have an audible tone with a verbal message in English that says, “This is a test of the earthquake warning system, no action is required.” If you want to be counted as a participant, you can register at: https://www.shakeout.org/register/index.php?start=california.
This is not a county-run exercise, but we encourage you to participate.

Seismic Retrofit Grant Funding is Available for Eligible Zip Codes in Mendocino County! Registration for the Earthquake Support Program + Bolt begins on October 18, 2022 and continues until November 29, 2022.
The Prevention, Recovery, Resilience, and Mitigation Division encourages homeowners in Fort Bragg, Mendocino, Redwood Valley, Ukiah, and Willits to take advantage of grant funding to offset the cost of seismic retrofitting of their primary residences.
The Earthquake Brace + Bolt (EBB) program, which is jointly administered by the California Seismic Authority and the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, offers grants to eligible homeowners of up to $3,000. The grants help offset the cost of seismic retrofits that support the faulty walls of older homes, where they exist, and homes that are anchored to their foundations, making them less susceptible to earthquake damage.
Eligible homeowners can apply online for grants during the registration period, October 18 through November 29, 2022. Thanks to additional FEMA funding managed by Cal OES, EBB grants will be available to homeowners in 521 ZIP codes in more than 270 cities and communities. In Mendocino County, ZIP codes eligible for EBB grants are 95437 (Fort Bragg), 95460 (Mendocino), 95470 (Redwood Valley), 95482 (Ukiah), and 95490 (Willits).
Income-qualified homeowners may also be eligible for available supplemental grants. Amounts vary by region and type of retrofit completed. These supplemental grants, available to families with an income of $72,080 or less, may be able to provide up to 100% of the funds needed for seismic retrofit coverage. Grants are dependent on meeting eligibility requirements and available funds.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
