Social media platform Twitter is finally in the hands of the world’s richest man – wondering if its new owner will loosen regulations covering hate speech, misinformation and fake news. Elon Musk completed the acquisition – worth more than $44 billion – and quickly began making changes to the company. Some senior managers are said to have been fired. To seal the deal, Mr. Musk tweeted, “Let the good times roll.” He has previously said he believes in what he calls “absolute freedom of speech”, and today Donald Trump, who has been banned from the platform, said Twitter is in “good hands”. Elon Musk also announced the creation of a new board with “many perspectives” to moderate Twitter posts.
