Iran attack: US troops target with ballistic missiles – BBC News

Iran has launched a ballistic missile attack on U.S. air bases in Iraq, killing General Qasem Soleimani in the US.

More than a dozen missiles launched from Iran hit two air bases in Irbil and Al Assad, west of Baghdad.

It is not clear whether the accident occurred.

Washington's initial response has changed. President Trump tweeted that all was well and said he is evaluating the casualties and the damage.

Two bases in Iraq consisted of US and coalition troops; one in Al Asad and the other in Irbil at 2:30 am (10:30 GMT), shortly after burying Soleimani.

The Al Asad airline – located in Iraq's western Anbar province – hit at least six missiles.
