An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale occurred in the western city of Izmir in Turkey early today (October 4).

In the morning, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu announced that there were no casualties and said: “31 people came to hospitals for various reasons as a result of panic in the 4.9-magnitude earthquake this morning whose epicenter was in Buca, Izmir. It was later announced that someone had died of a heart attack during the earthquake and that an 18-year-old college student who jumped from the balcony of his own device later lost his life in hospital.

The Presidency of Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) announced on its website that the quake occurred at 03:29 am and was centered in the Buka district of Izmir. The depth of the earthquake was recorded 14.47 km.

Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu announced that 31 people applied to hospitals for various reasons as a result of the earthquake panic. Soylu said three of the injured were still receiving treatment and one was seriously injured.

The Disaster and Emergency Management announced that 13 aftershocks occurred after the quake, which measured 4.9 as of 04:30 a.m., with the largest of which was 2.4. The Disaster and Emergency Department also announced that there were no reports of loss of life and injury to citizens as a result of jumping from a high state of panic.
