Earthquakes in New Hampshire and Massachusetts Rock New England

A pair of earthquakes hit New England on Saturday. The first hit near Laconia in central New Hampshire while the other hit north of Nantucket, Massachusetts. An tremor of the first quake was reported by people to the USGS from Laconia south to Concord, New Hampshire while the second quake was felt across Cape Cod as well as all over the island of Nantucket.

The New Hampshire earthquake struck at 4:23 am. The magnitude 2.3 event had its epicenter 5.4 km deep. People throughout the Lake District reported feeling a tremor and a stroke at the time of the earthquake.

The Massachusetts earthquake occurred several hours later at 2:53 pm. The epicenter was underwater just north of Nantucket, at a depth of 10.8 km. The USGS says the magnitude of this earthquake was 2.1. The earthquake was too weak to create a tsunami hazard around Nantucket or anywhere else along the northeastern coast of the United States.

There were no more earthquakes across the northeast this weekend.
