Delhi earthquake: It didn’t take long for images of memes to surface on Twitter after earthquakes left buildings and people shook on Wednesday night. On Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram and others, anxious netizens found humor after a 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit the Himalayan region near Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand along the Nepalese border.

The tremors were felt in Delhi and the surrounding areas in Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and even in Lucknow which knocked people out of their sleep. Many logged into their Twitter accounts to confirm with each other whether an earthquake followed by jokes and memes flooded the social media platform. Many were inspired by the songs and scenes in Bollywood to explain their experience. The National Center of Seismology (NCS) said the quake’s epicenter was in Nepal, about 90 km east-southeast of Pithuragarh in Uttarakhand, and occurred at 1.57 am on Wednesday.

The tremors lasted about 10 seconds and were reported from several parts of the state.

The quake was about 10 kilometers deep, according to the National Center for Seismology. The National Center of Seismology wrote on Twitter, “Quake of magnitude 6.3, occurred on November 9, 2022, 01:57:24 IST, Latitude: 29.24, Longitude: 81.06, Depth: 10 km, Location: Nepal.”

The epicenter was 21 km from Depayal in Nepal. NCS data showed that the area experienced at least two earthquakes of magnitude 4.9 and magnitude 3.5 late Tuesday night.

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck Uttarakhand on Sunday with an epicenter 17 kilometers east-southeast of Uttarakshi.
