Delhi earthquake: 5.4 magnitude earthquake hits Nepal, earthquake felt in northern India

Delhi, the National Capital Region and some other northern states experienced earthquakes on Saturday. The quake was felt when a 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, 212 km southeast of Joshimath in Uttarakhand.

The National Center for Seismology cited the earthquake originating in Nepal at a depth of 10 km with latitude 29.28 north and longitude 81.20 east.

Apart from Delhi-NCR, tremors were felt in parts of Uttarakhand, including cities like New Tihri, Pitturagarh, Bageshwar, Puri and others. The earthquake was also felt in parts of Uttar Pradesh.

“The earthquake’s origin was at a depth of 10 km and 3 km from Silanga town in Nepal. The affected countries are India, China and Nepal,” B.S. Mahar, Disaster Management Officer Pithuragarh told PTI.

So far, there have been no injuries or reports of damage in the aftermath of the earthquake that struck Delhi and surrounding areas.

This comes just days after residents across the region were shaken by the 6.3-magnitude earthquake in western Nepal. In fact, this is the third earthquake in Nepal this week.

A 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, Thursday, with its epicenter in the Kada district of the rural municipality of Khaptad Chiddadha in the Bagura district, 750 km from Kathmandu. A total of 6 people died in the accident.

The epicenter of Wednesday’s 6.6-magnitude earthquake was in Khaptad National Park in Doti district in western Nepal.
