Delhi – People felt an earthquake in Delhi for the second time in a week

Strong tremors were felt in parts of northern India, including in Delhi-NCR, on Saturday night, officials said, as a 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, about 101 km east-southeast of Pithuragarh in Uttarakhand.

The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center of Nepal said the quake’s epicenter was Patadipal in Pajhang, 460 km west of Kathmandu.

There were no immediate reports of damage.

Panicked people rushed out of their homes as the quake struck at 7:57 pm, three days after a 6.3-magnitude quake struck Nepal and left six people dead in the neighboring country.

This is the third earthquake to hit seismically active Nepal in a week.

The earthquake was also felt in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and some areas of western Uttar Pradesh such as Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar and Shamli.

Kamal Tiwari, a resident of Noida, said he experienced the tremors for at least 10 seconds, adding, “They weren’t as strong as the ones on Wednesday night, but they left us in a state of fear.”

Ravi Chopra had just arrived home when he was shocked.

“I was sitting in the living room when I saw the fan and the chandelier swaying,” said a resident of Ghaziabad.

Several people also shared their experiences on Twitter, where they posted videos of people rushing out of their homes and some gathering in groups.

Earlier, a 3.4-magnitude earthquake had its epicenter in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand at 4:25 pm on Saturday.

Data from the National Center of Seismology showed that the Himalayan region along the border of Uttarakhand and Nepal experienced at least eight earthquakes of varying degrees between 8 and 12 November.

Saturday’s earthquake occurred in Nepal at a depth of 10 km, with latitude 29.28 north and longitude 81.20 east.

In Uttarakhand, earthquakes were felt in places including Pithuragarh, Munsyari and Gangolihat.
