5.4 magnitude earthquake hits Nepal, tremors were felt in Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad

Delhi earthquake: The National Center of Seismology said the depth of the quake was 10 km underground and the quake was of a magnitude of 5.4. Apart from Delhi, the tremors were also felt in parts of Uttarakhand, including cities like New Tihri, Pipituragarh, Bageshwar, Puri and others.

New Delhi: People felt a major earthquake in the national capital on Saturday around 8pm and tremors were felt all over NCR. The tremors prompted many to leave their homes and offices. According to initial reports, the tremors lasted for about 5 seconds and were reported from Noida and Gurugram as well.

Notably, this is the second time an NCR has felt earthquakes in less than a week. On Tuesday evening, Delhi felt strong tremors around 2am after it hit Nepal with a magnitude of 6.3. According to the updates of the National Seismological Center, the depth of the quake was about 10 kilometers. The quake killed six people and injured eight others in Nepal.

Apart from Delhi, the tremors were also felt in parts of Uttarakhand, including cities like New Tihri, Pipituragarh, Bageshwar, Puri and others.

The National Center for Seismology said the quake was 10 kilometers underground and had a magnitude of 5.4.

On July 31, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Kathmandu at a distance of 147 kilometers at 8.13 a.m. PST around Martim Berta in Khotang District, according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center (NEMRC).

In 2015, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck central Nepal between Kathmandu and Pokhara. It is estimated that 8,964 people were killed and nearly 22,000 injured.
