People felt the tremors in Delhi – NCR when the earthquake hit Nepal

Strong tremors were felt in the Delhi-NCR region and some other northern states on Saturday evening after a 5.4-magnitude earthquake hit Nepal. People were seen rushing out of their homes and offices in the national capital where the earthquake was felt at 7.57pm.

According to the National Center of Seismology, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Nepal, about 212 km southeast of Joshimath in Uttarakhand.

This is the third time in a week that Nepal has experienced a major earthquake and this is the fifth earthquake in the country in the past three days with a magnitude of 4 or more.

On Wednesday morning, shock waves were felt across northern India, including Delhi and the surrounding areas of Ghaziabad and Gurugram, when a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck western Nepal.

An official from the International Institute for Human Development said Saturday’s earthquake occurred in Nepal at a depth of 10 km, with latitude 29.28 north and longitude 81.20 east.

In Uttarakhand, earthquakes were felt in places including Pithuragarh, Munsyari and Gangolihat.

Nepal experienced a severe earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale in 2015 when 8,964 people lost their lives.
