3.4 magnitude earthquake hits Maharashtra

The National Center of Seismology (NCS) has reported that Kolhapur in Maharashtra was hit by an earthquake on Tuesday morning with a magnitude of 3.4 on the Richter scale.

The earthquake occurred at 9:26 am. The depth of the earthquake was 5 kilometers underground.

“An earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale occurred 81 kilometers northwest of Kolhapur, Maharashtra at around 9:26 am. The depth of the earthquake was 5 kilometers underground,” the NCS wrote on Twitter.

No damages due to the earthquake have been reported so far. Awaiting more reports.

In a similar incident, a 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on November 12, 2022, at 7.57 pm, and as a result, simultaneous tremors were felt by Delhi and the National Capital Region.

The Press Trust of India said there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. This is due to the fact that according to Michigan Tech researchers, earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 5.4 occur approximately 500,000 times annually worldwide but cause little damage.

Through the NCS website and mobile app, more than 260 earthquake reports of intensity I to IV on the modified Mercalli intensity scale (MMI) have been received from Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal.

In addition, on November 11, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Charu village in West Siang, Arunachal Pradesh, at 10:31 pm.

The national monitoring station stated that the epicenter was located “at a shallow focal depth of 10 km” 165 km NE of Itanagar and 365 km NE of Guwahati at 28.400N, 94.40E.
