Yesterday, a 5.3-magnitude Texas earthquake hit many people by surprise in Lubbock, Texas.

I was sitting in my office here at the station when I felt it. Suddenly, I felt something. I looked at the floor lamp by my desk and noticed that it swayed back and forth. That’s when I clicked that there is an earthquake going on.

I grew up in an area that didn’t have earthquakes, and there weren’t any in Lubbock either, so I was surprised. I texted my partner to see if he felt it and he said he didn’t feel a thing. Then a friend of mine sent a message in a group chat and we found out that only those of us who were on a higher level of the building noticed the earthquake. Either way, it was a little scary and definitely unexpected.
