Dr. Ivins Laborde sends pictures with latest Haiti earthquake update | Health / Fitness

Dr. Ivins Laborde of New Orleans, a Haitian who works at Ochsner Medical Center, spent more than two weeks in Haiti after the massive earthquake on January 12th.

He and others set up a mobile medical clinic and even go door-to-door to treat survivors. He has now returned to Haiti to continue this work.

Here, in his words, is his latest report on what he found:

“I wanted to share some of the many photos that show how your donations through Ochsner are making a difference on the ground in Haiti. Unfortunately, two full months after the ‘earthquake’ life is still very difficult for Haiti and its citizens. However, we continue to make a difference, we have been able to save Tents for some families in need as well as tarpaulins, but we fully understood that a long-term solution was needed.

“We have been successful with the mobile clinic concept and have been able to continue providing supplies and medicine. We are also looking at ways to help Haitian medical students whose education has been interrupted.

“It was also a pleasure to meet Dr. Dan Gallagher, a fellow medical staff member and board member of Ochner Medical Center – West Bank. Dan works with OM/Medishare Hospital at the airport.

“Our next focus in the new shipment of supplies will be to help the people of Leogane, which was the real epicenter of the earthquake and was almost completely destroyed. We’ll keep you updated.”
