West Java is allocating 20 billion rupees for the earthquake emergency response

TEMPO.CO, BANDUNG – West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil on Wednesday assured the public that the provincial government has a budget of 20 billion rupees earmarked for disaster mitigation, which in this case will be used to respond to the devastating earthquake that hit Cianjur.

This allocated budget comes separate from the regional expenditure of 2 billion rupees for the logistical needs of the earthquake survivors who have been displaced from their homes and are now settling in temporary refugee camps.

“We have prepared 20 billion rupees for emergencies,” the governor said in his November 23 statement.

Governor Kamel noted that the central government has also pledged to contribute to the financing of the post-disaster recovery process, which will include rebuilding severely damaged homes and other facilities.

Rizwan Kamel said that a number of local government officials who will attend as delegates at the 11th Conference of Local and Regional Governments in East Asia, which will be held in Bandung tomorrow, also provided disaster assistance to the earthquake victims.

“All delegates expressed their condolences and offered financial assistance,” he said.

Amid recovery from Monday’s devastating earthquake, the 11th East Asian Conference of Local and Regional Governments will continue on November 24 as it was an event planned three years ago that was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
