The Weather Network – The house ‘shuddered’ when a small earthquake struck near Tofino, British Columbia

People living in parts of Vancouver Island felt the ground shake Friday evening when a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Tofino, British Columbia.

According to Earthquake Canada, the quake “which felt lighter” occurred around 7:50 p.m. Pacific time, about 34 kilometers northwest of Tofino.

No damage has been reported, and no tsunami is expected.

Former Tofino mayor and current Minister of Lands, Water and Resources, Josie Osborne, tweeted that her “whole house shuddered” during the quake.

Friday’s tremor followed a 4.0-magnitude earthquake on Thursday, 288 km southwest of Tofino.
