Earthquake in the Bay of Bengal. Check the distance from the epicenter of Puri and Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale occurred in the Bay of Bengal at around 8.32 am on Monday.

According to the National Center of Seismology (NCS), the epicenter of the quake was located at a depth of about 10 kilometers in the Bay of Bengal.

The point of origin was 421 km east of Puri, 434 km east-southeast of Bhubaneswar and 409 km southeast of Kolkata.

However, there were no reports of major flooding nor damage in coastal areas. CSA has not said anything yet about whether or not this earthquake could cause a tsunami.

The Dhaka Tribune reported that tremors were felt in Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh at around 9.05 am following the quake. The epicenter was 529 km southwest of Dhaka, 340 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar and 397 km southwest of Chittagong. An official with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said the epicenter was in the southwest Bay of Bengal, near India.

A 3.3-magnitude earthquake jolted Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh this morning. The center added that movement under the surface of the earth was felt at around 7.4 am at 92 kilometers southwest of Changlang City, and the depth was 10 kilometers underground.

There have been no reports of damages or losses so far.
