Indonesia earthquake: A strong 6.2-magnitude earthquake hits one of Australia’s closest neighbors

Indonesia’s Geophysics Agency said that a 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit the Indonesian islands of Bali and Java.

The agency said that the earthquake occurred off the southern coast of East Java province at a depth of 10 km and 305 km southwest of Denpasar in Bali, adding that it is not expected to cause a tsunami.

Residents posted on social media that local authorities were checking for any damage from the quakes, which were strongly felt in the provinces of East Java and Bali.

It follows a 6.4-magnitude earthquake at a depth of 118 km in West Java on Saturday.

While there were no reports of damage or casualties, Saturday’s earthquake was felt by residents in the capital, Jakarta, more than 280 kilometers from the epicenter.

More than 300 people were killed in November when a 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit Cianjur district in West Java.
