A vibrating woman says the crane’s collapse left dead was “like an earthquake”

A woman, whose house was hit by a collapsed crane that killed one person, was described as “like an earthquake.”

The 20-meter crane collided with two houses and a group of apartments under development in Bo East London on Wednesday afternoon.

Unfortunately, the London Fire Brigade confirmed the killing of a woman at the scene and the injury of four others.

Rahna al-Rahman, 26, who said she lives in one of the terraced houses that was destroyed by the crane, talked about how she might die as well.

She said she and her family members had a “lucky escape.”

But she described the horrific accident, saying how the entire house was shaken and could hear her mother’s screaming.

“From afar, I heard a lot of noise, a large pile, I thought it was an earthquake,” she said.

Mrs. Rahman said her father was going to the park to buy a cigarette and saw the crane fall.

The property’s lawyer said she lives next to the house of firefighters trying to release a woman believed to be still stuck in the rubble.

She said she was the only one upstairs, and had she been in her bathroom she would have died.

Mrs. Rahman said: “I was the only person on the upper floor and everyone on the lower floor.

“From anywhere I heard a lot of noise, a large pile, I thought it was an earthquake.

“The whole house shook a lot and I could only hear my mom screaming because I was the only one upstairs.

“I thought it hit me. All doors were closed but literally it was just smoke everywhere.

“If I were in the bathroom, the attic would have fallen on me.

“I can’t believe the timing. I just closed the door to my room and heard it.

“I literally can’t believe it. I literally had a narrow escape. We are very fortunate.”

She said that the crane hit two rooms including her brother and sister’s room, and fortunately her sister was at work and her brother was in the basement.

And Mrs. Rahman added: “If he had been on the top floor, he would not be alive today.

“Our house is next door, it hit diagonally, so it’s all in our garden. It’s hard to know how it really happened.

“Everybody was panicking and screaming to make sure everyone was fine. I thought my brother was upstairs but it was not, fortunately.

“Fortunately we had stairs. Second, they do not have stairs. It is just smoke and rubble.

“We just went out on the side. The fire alarm was exploding. It was really really feverish. It’s unbelievable. I can’t believe what happened.”

She said that her father, who was in the park, was taken to the Langdon Park School with other people who were evacuated from the road.

She said, “I don’t know what will happen to us. It is not safe. Literally we can’t get anything from home.”

“I cannot believe what happened. Do not expect a crane to fall into your bloody home. You expect more care,” added Ms. Rahman.

The London fire brigade confirmed that a woman was found on the first floor of a house in Bo who had collapsed the crane, and that she was confirmed dead at the scene.

Assistant Commissioner Graham Ellis said: “A 20-meter long crane collapsed on a block of apartments under development to two attached homes in Compton Close.

“Urban search and rescue crews performed a complex rescue operation and used specialized equipment for real estate research.

“Unfortunately, one woman died at the scene. The London ambulance service confirmed that two people were taken to hospital with head injuries and two others were treated at the scene.”

Emergency services are still at the scene after the rush to the residential area at around 2.40 pm today.

A police siege was imposed and drivers were told to avoid the area where fire engines were parked outside the house, which resulted in the closure of the street.

The crane that collapsed was used by the Swan Housing Association and NU living.

A spokeswoman for the Swan Housing Association and NU Living said: “The Swan Housing / NU Living Association is aware of an accident at the WhatsApp Grove development site in Tower Hamlets, East London, this afternoon.

“A full incident response was implemented and our on-site staff support emergency services in their response.”

The Metropolitan Police sent officers to the scene after they were called up around 2.39 pm on Wednesday to Gail Street to report a crane that collided with residential property and a construction site.

United National Officer Jerry Swain said that there should be “an urgent, full and complete investigation into the circumstances that led to this incident.”

He added: “The initial results that must be announced within weeks, not months or years, in order to avoid similar incidents in the future.”
