Did an earthquake happen? West Texas has been rocked by a 5.4-magnitude earthquake just outside the Midlands

MIDLAND, Texas (KTRK) — West Texas residents once again felt the ground shaking beneath them on Friday when a 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck the area.

The USGS reported the quake as occurring at about 5:35 p.m. 13 miles outside of Midland, Texas.

The USGS also reported a 3.3-magnitude aftershock about three minutes later and about the same location as the previous site.

There were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries.

The earthquake, which occurred on Friday evening, occurred exactly one month after the region was hit by a similar quake of magnitude 5.4. The USGS reports that one is outside of Menton, Texas, which is just south of the border with New Mexico.

Published reports indicate that the earthquake, which also had aftershocks, was felt as far as San Antonio.
