Earthquake in Odessa Midland shakes the state

People from Midland, Odessa, Big Spring and even New Mexico reached out to share their reactions.

Midland, Texas – An earthquake in Northwest Midland shook things up in West Texas Friday night.

NewsWest 9 received many comments and posts about the earthquake on Friday.

Sebastian Curillo asked on Twitter if anyone else had experienced the big earthquake in the North East Midlands.

Jennifer said on Twitter that it was her first earthquake experience.

Carlos wrote on Twitter that he was on the west side of Odessa and his mom felt the big shaking all the way in Midland.

Diana Perez was also on the west side of Odessa, and said she felt her bed lift off the floor while she slept, but unfortunately she had some home damage as well.

“It cracked in the middle of my foundation and on the side of the foundation,” Perez said. “I was probably going to go outside under the trailer to see, because it looked like it flooded the trailer down on one side.”

In Midland, the earthquake gave Tim Pritchett a reason to redo his bathroom tiles with three of them falling into the tub, after his initial reaction.

“My son and I were watching TV and it felt like there was a bulldozer or something outside and he was like, ‘What is that?’ So I said, I started looking around, and I said, ‘I think this is an earthquake,'” Pritchett said.

At Big Spring, MaCain Brock said it had something to do with the vibration, saying it feels like a helicopter is flying overhead.

With two earthquakes in the space of several months, it definitely feels like cause for concern.

“You start to think, ‘Your home is a great investment,’ you know these earthquakes are going to cost us money to fix our homes,” Brock said. “Do we need to call and get earthquake insurance on our homes now? It’s a real big deal. It could cause serious damage to one of your biggest investments.”

Not only Midland, Odessa, and Big Spring felt the shaking, but people in the mountains of New Mexico also felt it!

Sharon Cruz said she felt it in a ruidoso, and said it lasted about 10 seconds.

“It’s amazing to me how far apart we are [Midland/Odessa]it shocked us deeply [it] “I literally felt like shaking my house. It was crazy,” Cruz said.
