Earthquakes measuring 4.7 and 5.3 have struck Baglung district in Nepal, according to reports of casualties.

KATHMANDU: Two earthquakes measuring 4.7 and 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted Nepal’s Baglung district in the early hours of Wednesday morning, according to Nepal’s National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center (NEMRC).

According to the center’s readings, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake occurred around Adhikari Chaur in Baglung district at 01:23 (local time).

The second quake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale was reported to have hit Kunga district in Baglung district at 02:07 (local time).

“A 5.3-magnitude earthquake occurred around Konga in Baglung District at 02:07 on 09/13/2079 NEMRC/DMG,” the tweet read.

No loss of life or property has been reported so far.

An earthquake of medium intensity rocked Dading district near Kathmandu on December 19. The National Medical Research Center (NEMRC) measured 4.5 on the Richter scale at 10.53pm with its epicenter located in Dading district, 50 km west of Kathmandu.

The earthquake was also felt in Kathmandu and surrounding areas. However, there were no reports of property damage or injuries.

Earlier this month, the Indonesian region of West Java was hit by a 6.1-magnitude earthquake, which sent buildings running out of people.

The earthquake was felt in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, about 200 km from the epicenter. The agency added that the earthquake is not likely to cause a tsunami.
