NEW DELHI: An earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale rocked Delhi and its surrounding areas on New Year’s Day Sunday. The earthquake was recorded in Jhagar, Haryana state with the tremor being felt in areas near Delhi, according to the National Center of Seismology. So far, there have been no reports of damage or injuries.

The earthquake hit Haryana and surrounding areas around 1.19 am. The National Center for Seismology added that the epicenter of the quake was in the state of Haryana and its depth was 5 kilometers underground.

NCS is the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring earthquake activity in the country. Earlier on November 12, tremors were felt across Delhi NCR. According to the National Center of Seismology (NCS), the November 12 earthquake had a magnitude of 5.4 on the Richter scale that occurred in Nepal, at approximately 7:57 pm. “The depth of the earthquake was 10 kilometers underground,” the NCS said.
