Eagle River Elementary School set to return to the Internet in 2021 – KTVA 11

Nick Bell Bell, anchorage school district project manager, says Eagle River Elementary School is on schedule to reopen in August 2021.

Construction and demolition are in progress now. The school has not been connected since November 2018 due to damage sustained during the 7.1-magnitude earthquake.

Bell says the reason the school was flagged and taken offline is because of the gym damage.

“This ceiling in that area was not stable,” Bell said. “We immediately settled after the earthquake, and we strengthened it so that it did not fall, but given the number of aftershocks and things like that we couldn’t work in the building safely.”

This summer, crews are tired of tearing the old roof, and only this week, workers began removing the exterior facade.

Bell said the metal slope is being replaced with modern fiberglass panels with better insulation.

Since the school is not really connected, crews can work all year round, which is a plus.

Dan Piaskowski, director of the Watterson Construction site at this time next year, says the school will be almost completed.

The recovery project has a price tag of over $ 12 million, and funding is provided through three separate bonds from 2018, 2019, and 2020.
