Senior duo signs with Earthquakes

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Cam Seeley and Keegan Tingey have signed local touchdowners with the San Jose Earthquakes, the team announced Friday afternoon. Kelly and Tingey will make five former Cardinals among the Earthquakes for the 2022-23 campaign, as the duo join Tanner Bison, Oseni Buda and Will Richmond.

“Cam Kelly has had a fantastic career for us, becoming a regular in the midfield position,” said Jeremy Gunn, the Knowles family manager of men’s soccer. “As he has progressed through his career, he has also become a more offensive presence and has had an incredible big year. We are very excited for him to get a chance with the San Jose Earthquakes, the team he was a youth player for. One of Stanford’s leaders for the 2022 campaign, Cilley had a career-best season in multiple statistical categories. The midfielder scored his first career goal of the year against California, and went on to score six goals, which is the team’s second-most this season.

He also posted a career high in assists, going five points for a total of 17 points, the third-best mark on the team. The drive of Stanford’s midfield, Cilley handled penalty kick duties and was perfect from the penalty spot, scoring three-for-three on the year. For his efforts this season, the Alamo, California native was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team, United Soccer Coaches All-District First Team honors, and a CSC Academic All-District selection.

“Keegan Tingye, a four-year starter, played almost every game in his career starting at left wingback, and was a fantastic defender who was a key part of the starting possessions and attack for us from the left wingback position,” John said. “He was a solid player throughout his four years, always with a natural composure and ease while controlling play and the ball. We are also delighted for him to get the opportunity with the San Jose Earthquakes, the youth team he played for. It is exciting for us to have the opportunity. During the 2022 season, Tingey helped lead the Cardinal defense to the top 10 in shutout percentage in the NCAA (10, 0.500), 22nd in goal difference (+23), and 26th in goals against average (0.889) during the regular season. He added nine points for the team and is the sixth most among Stanford players. His seven assists were the second most on the team and he contributed a goal as well.

Tingey was also named an All-Pac-12 selection, earning second-team honors while also being named an Academic All-America honoree.
