A 4.3-magnitude earthquake shakes Mizoram, the second earthquake in weeks. No damage has been reported

With a new, moderate, earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale on Thursday, mountain Mizoram has been experiencing light and moderate tremors since June 22, officials said.

The Indian Meteorological Department said that the earthquake struck the Chamhai district in eastern Mizoram Thursday afternoon, the eight tremors that hit the northeastern state within 18 days.

According to officials from the Mizoram State Disaster Center, there is no report of any damage in the state due to the tremor, which occurred at 2.28 pm and its center was 10 km deep, and was also felt in the neighboring regions of Myanmar.

The northeastern mountainous country has recorded consecutive earthquakes over the past 18 days.

A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale, jolted the same region of Chambhai and the northeastern states bordering Myanmar on June 22, and damaged 31 buildings, including roads, buildings and important facilities.

Besides Chambhai, a series of tremors have also hit the Citiwal region since June 22. Seismologists consider the mountainous northeastern region to be the sixth belt exposed to earthquakes in the world.
