Two of the UK’s top High Street vendors, John Lewis and Boots, have announced more than 5,000 job cuts. 4,000 jobs will go to Boots and 48 Boots Opticians stores will be closed. 1,300 jobs are at risk in John Lewis, closing its eight stores, including one of its most important outlets in Birmingham. It is warned that the new package of financial support for the chancellor will not be enough to leave millions of workers losing their jobs.
