Tsunami: 7.7-magnitude earthquake hits Indonesia, triggers a tsunami warning, and earthquakes are felt in Australia

According to a Reuters report, Indonesia was hit by a 7.7-magnitude earthquake. Tsunami warnings were issued for Indonesia as tremors were felt in Australia’s Northern Territory, including Darwin.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said the quake hit the Tanimbar district in Indonesia. The center said the quake occurred at a depth of 97 kilometers (60.27 miles) below the Earth’s surface.

The earthquake struck at 3.17 am local time. The quake occurred northeast of the tiny Asian country of East Timor with its epicenter in the Banda Sea.
