DSWD continues to monitor earthquake-hit provinces – Manila Bulletin

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is in constant coordination with earthquake-stricken Local Government Units (LGUs) Leyte, Camarines Norte and Davao Occidental for potential technical assistance and resource augmentation.

Today, Friday, January 20, the Ministry of Social Development said coordination and monitoring is being done through its field offices (FOs) in the respective provinces.

At least 417,000 pesos in relief aid has already been distributed by DSWD FO District 8 to 364 families affected by the 5.1-magnitude earthquake that struck Leyte on January 15, DSWD added.

It added that three hundred and sixty-four houses were damaged as a result of the natural disaster in the aforementioned area.

Camarines Norte experienced earthquakes measuring 4.8 and 4.7 on the Richter scale on January 17 and 18, respectively, while a 7.3-magnitude earthquake shook Davao Occidental on January 18.

DSWD confirmed that as of January 19, more than 1.2 billion pesos of reserve funds and stocks are available for response operations in these affected areas.

It added, “Of this amount, more than P102 million are reserve funds available at Central Office and DSWD FOs, while there are 498,917 family food packages worth more than P312 million.”

There is also over 857 million pesos of food and non-food items pre-positioned in various welfare management organizations nationwide.
