The Federal Emergency Management Agency approves disaster assistance for the Utah earthquake

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that President Donald Trump has agreed to federal disaster assistance for Utah from the earthquake on March 18, 2020 and its aftermath.

The measure means that people in Davis and Salt Lake County can apply for federal disaster funding, which includes grants and loans.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.7, and its epicenter near Magna, damaged a number of buildings in the area. Hundreds of aftershocks followed in the weeks that followed, including a pair of minor tremors on Wednesday measuring less than 3.0.

In a press release, FEMA said residents and business owners can apply for temporary housing grants and home repairs as well as low-cost loans for uninsured property losses from the earthquake. Those interested should register online with FEMA or call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing impaired and speechless.

Assistance applies to damage or losses incurred between March 18 and April 17, 2020.
