Canada earthquake confirms 2.8 magnitude earthquake in Sudbury

People took to social media to report the rumble on Saturday and Sunday afternoons this weekend

Earthquakes Canada confirmed an earthquake occurred near Sudbury on Sunday afternoon.

The event had a magnitude of 2.8, and it occurred at 2:17 p.m. Information about the earthquake is now posted on the Earthquakes Canada website.

“Due to the location it may be related to mining activity, but we don’t have confirmation yet,” seismologist Alison Bennett said in an email to Sudbury.com.

A Vale spokesperson said the company is looking into the matter.
