Once again, an earthquake hits Cianjur. BMKG says that 5 regions felt the tremors

TEMPO.CO, JAKARTA – The Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) has just updated the data and analysis of the earthquake that occurred on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 02:45:01 WIB.

Head of BBMKG Region 2 Tangerang, Hartanto, stated that Cianjur Regency, West Java and surrounding areas were shaken by the tectonic earthquake.

BMKG analysis results show that this current earthquake has a magnitude of 4.3. The epicenter was at 6.82°S and 107.07°E longitude, or 7km northwest of Cianjur Regency, West Java, at a depth of 10km.

“Taking into consideration the location of the epicenter and the depth of the low epicenter, the quake that occurred was a shallow type of earthquake due to the activity of the Kujinang fault,” Hartanto said.

Based on the impact shown in the BMKG seismic hazard map and reports from the public, the earthquake reached Cikalongkulon, Cipanas, Sukabumi, Cianjur, Warungkondang and Karangtengah area using III-IV MMI intensity scale.

In Purwakarta, the density scale reaches III MMI, while in South Jakarta, South Tangerang, Bekasi and Depok it reaches II MMI on the density scale.

However, to date, there have been no reports of building damage as a result of the earthquake.

Based on BMKG observations, from November 21, 2022 to Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 03:15 WEST in western Indonesia, there were about 487 earthquakes in the Cianjur region.

Hartanto asked the resident to remain calm and not be affected by any false matters.

Through BMKG’s official social media, many data reported that residents were awake due to tremors caused by the earthquake. It was reported that the earthquake was felt in Sukabumi, Depok, Bogor, Cianjur and Jakarta districts. The earthquake was also felt by Tempo, which operates in central Jakarta. Many claimed to be awake and afraid to go back to sleep.
