A 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit Islamabad

The Pakistan Meteorological Department said a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Islamabad on Sunday.

The epicenter of the earthquake occurred in Tajikistan, at a depth of 150 km, with coordinates 69.65 East, 38.65 North.

However, other sources, including the USGS and the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center, reported lower magnitudes of 4.4 and 4.1, respectively.

No injuries were reported and tremors were felt in the capital by residents and journalists.

Social media showed homes shaking and fixtures swaying as the quake struck. Distraught residents later gathered in the streets.

This comes just days after a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck parts of the country on January 5.

In October 2021, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Balochistan in the early hours of Thursday, killing 20 people, mostly women and children, and injuring about 300, at a time when many of the victims were asleep.
