Reporting of an “industry related” earthquake outside Fort St. John

Fort Ste. JOHN, British Columbia — A 4.5-magnitude earthquake occurred outside Fort St. John on Monday afternoon, according to Earthquake Canada.

The quake occurred at around 12:30 noon, 130 kilometers northwest of the city, and was “felt in the surrounding area.”

The event occurred at a depth of 5 km.

The area has been known to experience earthquakes lately.

In November 2022, two faulting earthquakes were reported near Fort St. John. A magnitude 4.6 earthquake occurred on November 11, and a magnitude 4.5 earthquake occurred on November 15.

Earthquake near Reno, Alta. On the 29th of November, the people of Dawson’s Creek and Fort St. John, along with the local communities, felt peace in Alberta.

The largest incident in the region occurred in 2001 when a 5.4-magnitude earthquake was reported outside British Columbia/Alberta near Dawson Creek.
