Heartbreaking footage released on Sunday shows the moment dazed residents of a city in Turkey walk down a street where buildings have collapsed in the aftermath of earthquakes that have rocked the country for nearly a week.

A security video released by the Diyarbakir Police Department revealed the eerie scenes of the early morning of January 6, when an earthquake struck southeastern Turkey.

In one video, people can be seen in the street fleeing falling buildings as smoke engulfs the wreckage – and two drivers try to back their cars to safety.

Other footage shows tall buildings shaking before some quickly collapse and collapse to the ground in a pile of debris.

Parts of Turkey and northern Syria were devastated by a 7.8-magnitude earthquake, which was followed hours later by a 7.5-magnitude earthquake that has claimed more than 33,000 lives so far, according to the Associated Press and Reuters.
