The World Food Program and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Government of Turkey are jointly leading the Emergency Telecommunications Sector (ETS) response in Turkey to support the response in areas affected by the multiple earthquakes that struck on 6 February 2023.

Highlights

• After assessments and engagement with local actors across affected areas, ETS identified three service delivery activities to enable humanitarian workers to operate efficiently and support the Government of Turkey’s response by providing access to communications to affected populations in temporary settlements.

• ETS is enhancing data link services in up to four joint locations where UNDAC is concentrated – Malatya, Adiyaman, Hatay and Kahramanmaraş.

• In support of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security, ETS works to ensure the availability and reinforcement of security communications systems in affected areas to support the safety and security of United Nations personnel in the field.
