Theresa May resigns as prime minister – BBC News

Theresa May says she will leave June 7 as a Conservative leader, the way to contest the new prime minister's decision.

In a moving statement on Downing Street, Mrs May said she had done "my best" to honor the outcome of the 2016 EU referendum.

Not being able to deliver on Brexit would be a "deep regret", he added.

But the new PM was "in the best interest of the country."
