An earthquake in Heidi Gwaii was felt by some people on Saturday

Two minor earthquakes were detected off the coast of British Columbia this weekend, one near Vancouver Island and the other in Haida Gwaii.

Neither earthquake caused any reported damage and neither caused a tsunami risk.

The first of these was recorded on Graham Island shortly before 11:30 pm on Saturday (11 March). It struck about 50 km south of Daajing Giids, at a depth of 10 km.

Earthquakes Canada says the quake was of a magnitude 3.8 and was felt lightly in Skidigate and Port Clements.

The second quake with a magnitude of 4.2 struck 241 kilometers west-southwest of Port Alice at around 8:30 am on Sunday. It was also recorded at a depth of 10 km. Earthquakes Canada says no one has reported feeling this way.
