A series of earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 struck Indonesia on Monday

Bogor, Java (Antara) – Multiple earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 on the Richter scale hit several areas in Indonesia early Monday morning, although no immediate reports were subsequently received of any damage and injuries.

The Jakarta-based Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the first 5.2-magnitude earthquake jolted Yogyakarta at 2:50 am local time.

The second earthquake measuring 5.5 degrees southwest of Banda Aceh, the capital of Aceh, shook at around 7:58 a.m. local time, while the third quake shook northwest of the Maluku region of Tenggara Barat in Maluku Province around 9:08 a.m. local time. time.

The agency revealed that the earthquake that struck Yogyakarta was centered 105 km southwest of the Bantul region, at a depth of 10 km.

According to the agency, residents of Bantul region not only felt the tremors of the earthquake, which caused not only the tsunami, but also those who live in areas such as Purworejo and Wonugiri in Central Java, and Basitan in East Java.

Meanwhile, the foci of two other earthquakes were 121 kilometers from Banda Aceh, at a depth of 10 kilometers, and 151 kilometers from the Maluku Tenggara Barat area, at a depth of 114 kilometers, BMKG revealed.
