From Iceland – Magnitude 4.2 earthquake hits western Iceland

A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck west of the island of Grimsey on the morning of April 18th, visir.is reports. The earthquake occurred at a depth of ten kilometers and was followed by several aftershocks with a magnitude of more than two.

According to local resident Bjarki Sigurðsson, there have been several earthquakes in the area since a major earthquake occurred earlier this month. While there were a few small quakes before the magnitude 4.2 quake, the aftershocks were much larger. None of the aftershocks measured more than three on the Richter scale, but the largest measured 2.6.

Residents of nearby towns and villages felt the earthquake and its aftershocks. Fortunately, there were no reports of major damage or injuries.
