No injuries, significant damages after M5.2 earthquake that hit Occidental Mindoro – OCD

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said there were no casualties and no major damage recorded following the 5.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Lok, Occidental Mindoro, at midnight Saturday, April 29.

However, residents in affected areas were advised to remain vigilant as aftershocks were to be expected, said Diego Agustin Mariano, head of the OCD Joint Information Center.

“[There was] “No human or material losses have been reported at the time of reporting,” Mariano said in a news release about the disasters.

He said the OCD in Mimaroba (Area 4b) and the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (DRRMOs) have been directed to coordinate and monitor any significant developments including aftershocks.

Mimaropa covers the provinces of West Mindoro, East Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.

The quake occurred at 12 a.m. and the epicenter was 19 km southeast of Luoc town. Its epicenter was 74 kilometers deep and had a tectonic origin.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) lowered the quake’s magnitude from 5.5 to 5.2, and verified its exact origin from the town of Calentan to Luc.
