A series of earthquakes strikes near El Centro on Saturday

SAN DIEGO – A series of earthquakes rocked the area south of El Centro on Saturday morning, according to the USGS.

The first quake was reported at 5:07 a.m. at a depth of about 6.5 miles, according to USGS data. The epicenter was about two miles from Heber, California. Officials say the quake had a magnitude of 4.1.

Just two minutes later at 5:09 a.m., the USGS says a second quake occurred in the same area at a depth of about 4.2 miles. This earthquake was reported to have a magnitude of 3.4 on the Richter scale.

A third quake, according to the USGS, occurred about a mile from Heber at 7:48 a.m. This quake had a magnitude of 3.0 at a depth of about 6.3 miles, says the USGS.

About 17 minutes later at 8:05 a.m., a fourth quake also struck within 1 mile of Heber and was recorded at a depth of 6.6 miles, according to the USGS. Officials say the quake had a magnitude of 2.5.

This series of quakes comes less than 24 hours after a 3.0-magnitude earthquake hit the same area near El Centro on Friday afternoon.

Another earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1 was also reported Thursday in the Oktillo Wells area in rural East County.

There are no reports of any injuries or damages at this time.
