Australian fires: Mega blaze likely on Friday evening – BBC News
Two fires in the Australian bush are likely to cause a so-called "mega blaze" by dark Friday, authorities have warned.
The merger is expected on the borders of New South Wales and Victoria and has been feared for some days.
Premier Scott Morrison warned that it will be a "difficult day" in eastern states amid forecasts of heat, strong winds and lightning.
In southern Australia, Kangaroo Island also faced a violent threat.
A spokesman for Rural Firefighters in New South Wales (NSW) told the BBC that the merger of the two fires – both of which are out of control – was "immediate" and expected around 8pm (9am GMT).
Two fires on Dunns Road and East Ournie Creek cause firefighters at night and the aircraft cannot operate in the darkness.
More than 100 shrubs are burning in the worst in NSW, although the risk in Victoria is also high.
