Great Western Power built the dam in 1910; It was reinforced in 1927 and 1962 to increase water storage. Pacific Gas and Electric now owns the dam and reservoir.

Green said that getting information about the bottom of the lake is not difficult. It just requires trained geologists and some modern technology.

“The data is not there. More studies need to be done – for example, about the lake floor and its shape, in a detailed sense. Then we can really see how much the faults are and where they are.”
